The Key to Success

UNICEF Rights Respecting School

Our school is proudly working towards achieving the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Gold Award. We have already taken significant steps on this journey, including launching a whole-school focus during Charity Week, where pupils explored how their actions can uphold and promote children’s rights locally and globally. This foundation is helping us build a culture where children’s rights are understood, valued, and lived every day across our school community.

This year, we are placing a strong emphasis on empowering our Rights Ambassadors to embed children’s rights deeply within our school ethos and wider community. Through their leadership, advocacy, and involvement in whole-school initiatives, we aim to ensure that the values of respect, participation, and equality are sustained and reflected in everything we do.

A massive thank you to everyone!

Al-Furqan School held a brilliant Soccer Aid event, raising money for UNICEF. As well as having lots of fun completing an obstacle course and penalty shoot-out, we raised an incredible £414. This is above the £350 target which was set! It will pay for a water pump in a developing country and the additional money raised will help build a classroom in Cote D’Ivoire.

Your kindness and generosity is very much appreciated. It is so important to encourage our pupils to understand the challenges that other children face both within the UK and in developing countries. It is empowering for them to learn that they can be proactive in making a change.

AL-FURQAN IS NOW A SILVER RIGHTS COMMITTED SCHOOL

Al- Furqan Primary School is very proud and excited to announce that on Tuesday 11th January 2022, we successfully achieved the UNICEF UK Silver – Rights Aware Award.

UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights. The Rights Respecting Schools Award is granted to schools that show commitment to promoting and realising children’s rights and encouraging adults, children and young people to respect the rights of others in school. Silver is given to schools that make excellent progress towards embedding the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into its ethos and curriculum.

Now that we have been awarded the UNICEF UK Silver - Rights Aware Award, the next step is to work towards achieving the Gold: Rights Respecting Award. This means we will continue to embed the UNICEF principles throughout the school in our policies, practice and ethos.
