Primary School Admissions Arrangements 2024
Closing date for applications: 15 January 2024

Responsibility for applying online
Birmingham City Council’s School Admissions and Fair Access Service publishes information on their website, informing parent/carers on how to start their child at school. However, the responsibility for submitting an application online for a child to start reception class, remains solely with parent/carers.
Information about schools includes the home to school distance (cut-off distance) of the last child admitted at the time of offer for entry in September 2023, 2022 and 2021 where applicable. It is not possible to predict cut-off distances for 2024.
There is no guarantee that the same pattern will repeat in 2024, but all parents and carers should please consider all the information below carefully before expressing preferences for Reception class and Year 2-3 transfers.

How to apply for Reception Class in September 2024
An application must be made online at www.birmingham.gov.uk/schooladmissions you will also be required to complete an additional information form for this school, which is available here or from the school. Both must be completed for a place.

How to make an In-Year application (In-Year Admissions)

Children with an Education Health and Care Plan
Any child with an Education Health and Care Plan/statement of special educational needs is required to be admitted to the school that is named in the statement. This gives such children overall priority for admission to the named school. This is not an oversubscription criterion.

Oversubscription Criteria
1. Looked after or previously looked after children (including previously looked after children from outside of England).
2. Children with a brother or a sister already at the school who will still be in attendance in September 2024.
3. Children whose parent/carer regularly attends a Mosque.
Regular is defined as meaning once a month for the twelve-month period prior to the date of the application. This will be confirmed by the parent/carer filling in the Local Authority’s supplementary information form (SIF) and getting section B completed by the Imam of the mosque.
The SIF needs to be returned directly to the school by 15 January 2024.
In the event that during the period specified for attendance the mosque has been closed for public worship and has not provided alternative premises, the requirements of these admissions arrangements in relation to attendance will only apply to the period when the mosque or alternative premises have been available for public worship.
4. Children of staff employed at Al-Furqan Primary School for two or more years or who will meet a skills shortage. For all children of staff this will need to be confirmed by completing section C of the Local Authority’s supplementary information form (SIF) and getting it signed by the Head Teacher at the School.
The SIF needs to be returned directly to the school by 15 January 2024.
5. Children who live nearest to the school.
Note: Distances are calculated on the basis of straight line measurement between the school gates on Formans Road to the child’s home address.
