Art
At Al-Furqan Primary, the AccessArt Primary Art Curriculum is used as an art scheme to help deliver a rich, broad, balanced, diverse and engaging art curriculum. It provides a clear structure to explore and teach Art at Al-Furqan. Through the AccessArt curriculum, children have access to a range of experiences with individual and personal outcomes, impacting on Knowledge, skills, enthusiasm and confidence. By the end of Year 6 we want all our children to have found an aspect of art that they feel like they can enjoy and excel at.
Children will develop a good understanding of the purposes of art, both to them as individuals and as society. They will be Introduced to many disciplines and explore a diverse and contemporary range of artists. They will have an Art journey which is varied, relevant, engaging, open-ended and exploratory. Children will develop the enjoyment of exploring through Art, be encouraged take creative risks and take pleasure in discovery and sharing ideas.
The curriculum consists of 3 “pathways" for each year group. The following disciplines ensure that our children are balancing 2D and 3D making.
Within each discipline there is a choice of pathways, a pathway is a collection of activities based around a particular theme or discipline. Through the pathways children have access to a variety of activities to keep them engaged and to aid creative thinking. The pathways provide access to a diverse range of artists/craftspeople/designers and architects.
Every child has a sketchbook, to record their personal Art journey. Embedding sketchbook work throughout the year, across all year groups ensures that our children develop key skills in experimenting, recording, failing, reflecting and understanding. At the end of every pathway, we carve out some time for reflection, where the children are encouraged to talk about their artwork, listen to and contribute to feedback.
