Year 5 getting the most of the BIG BANG FAIR 2018

By Dede Pourahmadi on Monday, March 19, 2018

During Science week, all year 5 children had the opportunity to visit the Big Bang Fair at the NEC in Birmingham. They talked to scientists and engineers about what they do and got some inspiring ideas of what they could be doing in the future.

As we know, engineers and scientists literally shape the world around us. They tackle some of the biggest challenges facing humanity and continue to improve the quality of our lives in thousands of different ways. While visiting the fair, children took part in many attention-grabbing activities, checked out some mind-boggling shows, took part in some very hands-on workshops and much, much more ! Asking how things work, dismantling and re-assembling things, coming up with solutions to problems and making adjustments and improvements are skills and traits that are used in engineering and science and all year 5 pupils had plenty opportunities to demonstrate this throughout the day.

The year 5 Team hope that all year 5 pupils enjoyed this wonderful experience and we are looking forward to finding out what they made of this trip and if we have ignited their curiosity in science and engineering.

I really enjoyed the NEC. I have learnt a lot. The best parts were making the salt water cars and making the hand cream. The challenging parts were trying to make the dice and trying to build the robot, but overall I have had the best time their.

The Big bang science fair was very interesting and i learnt so much.We took part in many activities such as making our own train with just wood and an elastic band!
We also asked the engineers/scientist how things worked and what they wanted to do when they were 10 years old.
I very much enjoyed this experience and i think it really benefited me because now i’m really interested in science and engineering.
I wish we could do something similar to this because we had to enable our science skills and our problem solving skills.

I really enjoyed this trip to the N.E.C as I learnt how to make skin cream and a salt water powered car. It also made me think about how scientists invent ideas and how science is all around us. For example T.Vs were invented by scientists and how we travel by new and improved ways of transport is based on science. Finally I hope the next year group will enjoy the trip as much as I have.

It was really enjoyable and exciting I learnt lots of new things.I learnt that if you drink alcohol or smoke then 10 years later u will be all wrinkly an pale, also I learnt how to make and power a car it was challenging because no one was there to tell u what to do you had to figure it out yourself.

I really enjoyed the NEC. I learnt a lot. The best part was when we had to make the wooden trains and see if they actually worked. The challenging part was when we had to figure it out by our self. We also got to ask questions to people who worked as scientists.

On Friday 19 March 2018 ,5M went on a trip to the NEC. We had to make our own car and race it. Guess what ? I won the race! YEAH! We also made hand cream and learn what it was made of. The challenge was to make your own car which was really hard but we got there at the end. THANK YOU USTADA POURAHMADI I LOVE THE NEC!!!
