On Thursday 15th February, year 5 pupils had the opportunity to meet the Space Expert, Mr Jerry Stone for a very special Space Day. They started by sharing what they already knew about space and tackled some of their misconceptions about space, such as “there is no gravity in space”, “the Sun gravitates around the Earth”… Following a very successful session, finding how big space is and how to scale the size and distance between the Sun, planets and satellites, children were invited to design and launch their own rockets… making sure their offload ( egg) did not smash while landing, and later on enjoyed a rocket launch under their parents watchful eyes !
Let’s say you had the chance to be one of the first to settle on Mars, would you jump at the chance to go?
How high do you think a rocket should be before it enters space ?
What do astronauts eat and drink while in space?

It was very exciting and challenging but fun overall.I really enjoyed when we designed our parachute and launching it from the school roof to see if the egg did not crack while landing .
I wish we could do this again because it was very fun!

I really enjoyed learning about space and all the planets. Also i had a great time designing and launching our own rockets and we had to make sure that the egg didn’t smash while it was landing.

I liked it when Jerry Stone came because he taught us so many things we didn’t know. First we made Mars rocket landers and threw them of the cliff. I liked the part where he launched the rockets.I would love to see him again!

It was really fun! I learnt a lot! Did you know there are actually 13 planets in the solar system and not 8 ?Making our own rockets was fun. We had to save our egg from smashing from the roof top!I also liked when Jerry stone did the rocket launch it was amazing.

This was really fun meeting Jerry Stone. It was fun when we made space crafts. It was really fun. We had a buget of £1,000,000. We had to made a parachute to protect our eggstronort . We had different materials. Sadly our eggstronort broke.

I enjoyed learning about how far should the moon be away from Earth. I enjoyed asking questions to Jerry stone. My favourite bit was the rocket launch because I liked it when the rockets shot up high in the sky and it went very high. I also enjoyed having lunch with Jerry stone.

I liked jerry stone because we learnt lots of new things I didn’t know like that there are actually 13 planets and that you can count pluto in and the length from the sun and the moon so thanks jerry stone for teaching us new things about space
