Balancing nails!

By Dede Pourahmadi on Sunday, May 22, 2016

Science week gave children the opportunity to  understand the meaning of the center of gravity (CG) and its effect on the stability of an object, while balancing 14 nails on a single nailhead.

Balancing nails was a fun and exciting topic. I learned that there are different strategies to do different types of things. The lesson was fascinating and I would never forget it. Thank you Ustada Pourahmadi for arranging this topic/lesson for us. I am glad I participated in it.

Balancing the nails was so hard , but i enjoyed looking at everybodys stratergies on how they thought it would balance but nobody got it. I was so fascinated when Ustada showed us how to balance it, nobody thought about it. Thanks to Ustada for showing us an amazing lesson

Balancing the nails was very fun but it was also very hard. Balancing the nails was THE best lesson I had. When Ustada showed us how to balance 14 nails in just one nail I just did not have any other words to say.

I loved the activity so much. I developed my science skills by trying to balance 14 nails on top of a nail. Everyone in 5M participated but no one could do it until Ustada Pourahmadi showed us how to do it. I feel more confident in these kind of stuff now. Thank you Ustada Pourahmadi!

I just wanted to leave some feedback on this activity as it caught my attention whilst browsing through the website. I have never come across such an activity and to be totally honest, I think it is a fab idea. Just by swiping through the images it looked like a activity that had ALL children engaged, it enabled them to critically think and problem solve. Credits to the teacher who planned this activity. Looking at the comments from children who took part in this, absolutely enjoyed this. There must have been a positive outcome, what more could you ask for? Children enjoying their selves as well as teachers getting a good outcome. Win win situation
